  • Along highway 95 in North Wash canyon in southeast Utah, several walls exhibit this weathering effects. Let's call it the "Holes in the wall" or "Swiss cheese" rock! April 10, 2010.
  • The erosional nature of the landscape near the Canyonlands is fantastic. At every turn there is a majestic and perhaps odd looking butte, cliff or eroding mountain or deep canyon. Here along highway 211 in southeastern Utah is an example of a Navajo Sandstone in a final stage of erosion. The fins are very narrow and will probably collapse in the next 50 to 500 years! April 2010.

  • In Canyonlands National Park, Needles district, an eroded landscape. Utah April 2010.
  • Along highway 211 in southeastern Utah these eroded Navajo Sandstone spires are common and reminders that this landscape is constantly changing and returning to sand. April 2010.

  • Lava "tree" creating by Lava flowing over a downed tree, hardening around it and the tree either burning or decaying in the center. This is one of many in the Lava Cast Forest, part of Newbury Volcanic National Monument near Bend, Oregon.
  • Mold of standing tree that Lava flowed over about 7,000 years ago at the Lava Cast Forest, part of Newbury Volcanic National Monument near Bend, Oregon.
  • Syncline along highway 14 in the Big Horn mountains of Wyoming. Notice the "squished" layers indicating intense opposite pressures as this section of the mountain was formed. May 22, 2012.
