Natural Textures, Shapes and Patterns

Nature leaves us with bountiful reminders that all beauty derives from her, even the abstract variety. We humans imitate nature and often do poorly. Here I try to record some of nature's lovely creations to inspire us in our own artistic attempts by looking closer at the artful structures nature produces.

  • Smooth, roundish stones and pebbles of black basalt found on a beach below the Yaquina Head Lighthouse near Newport, Oregon. When walking on these pebbles, they sound like glass. They were formed from volcanic rocks eroded and smoothed by the surf over 12 million years. Nov 2, 2009
